Dr. Sweeney-Fonseca explains the different methods of teeth whitening.
Teeth whitening is probably one of the most effective, quick fixes to brighten up someone’s smile. There’s many different ways you can do it, one of the most effective is called Zoom, or in-office whitening where we have a bright light that it shines onto the gel that we place, and the actual whitening is instantaneous, so that the patient will leave with four or five plus shades lighter teeth after about an hour and a half. There’s also anything from a simple whitening that we do with our regular cleaning visits, we call it trays to go. So after you have your teeth cleaned, that’s the best time to whiten them, because everything is stain free, and everything is nice and clean. So at that time we just apply the actual trays with the bleach, and then we will let the patient go home and have an extra one for next day, so that will just brighten the teeth right away. It’s actually something that we … most of our patients like to use for any routine procedures. But if somebody really wants to change the shade of their teeth significantly, then we would need to do whitening. Either home whitening, with the trays, or more effective in-office whitening.
